All batteries are considered hazardous waste in California and cannot go in the trash. HHW facilities accept household, rechargeable and vehicle batteries.

Tape the terminals of lithium and 9-volt batteries before transport to prevent fires.

Retailers that sell vehicle batteries in California are generally required to accept used ones.
