California regulates waste tires closely. Landfills and transfer stations that accept tires from the public usually cap the number per visit and may charge per tire.
Tires on rims are often charged more than tires off rims.
Tire retailers charge a disposal fee when installing new tires and will take the old ones.
Other ways
- Tire retailers. Any shop that installs tires can dispose of old ones, usually for a small per-tire fee.
- Amnesty events. Many California counties hold periodic free tire drop-off events for residents.
